A recent study by the National Endowment for the Arts ranked San Luis Obispo as one of the Top 15 most creative communities in the country, based on the number of artists in the workforce. That is just one of the reasons that the city is deemed the happiest place in America, according to the National Geographic book Thrive.
From the world-class Performing Arts Center, home to 150 public performances each year featuring artists from around the globe, to the San Luis Museum of Art and our plethora of art galleries, San Luis Obispo is rich in arts and culture.
Our city is host to a multitude of festivals throughout the year including the Plein Air Painting Festival, a weekend-long gathering of artists; the month-long Mozart festival; book-and-author festivals; the San Luis Obispo International Film Festival and many more.
Catch an outdoor concert in our historic Mission Plaza or take in the latest foreign film at the Palm Theatre. Whatever you most enjoy- theatre, music, museums, dance, galleries, festivals – you’ll find it here.
