The Central Coast is a great place to call home or to have a second home.   The pace of life is slower.  There are so many different areas from which to choose, including the following:

San Luis Obispo (city) - This is the hub of San Luis Obispo County. Cal Poly is here so students are a good portion of the population of SLO during the school year. Most students go away during the summer and then the tourists arrive. The farther from Cal Poly you get, the fewer students you’ll find living in the neighborhoods. Weather in San Luis Obispo is almost perfect. It’s far enough inland that it doesn’t get the coastal fog.

North Coast (Cambria, Cayucos, Morro Bay, Los Osos) - The North Coast communities offer close proximity to the ocean. Highway One is the main route up the coast, but it’s not heavily traveled so traffic isn’t a problem. If you want to be close to the ocean in a smaller community, the North Coast is a great choice. Cambria is unique, where pine trees meet the coast. Weather on the North Coast is pleasant. It has a few more foggy days than does the South Coast.

North County (Paso Robles, Templeton, Santa Margarita, Atascadero) - When you enter or leave San Luis Obispo on Highway 101, you’ll encounter a big hill, the Cuesta Grade. North County is on the north side of the hill. It’s where you’ll find more rural areas and larger parcels. Weather in the North County is different than anywhere else on the Central Coast. It is hotter in summer and colder on winter nights.

South County (Pismo Beach, Grover Beach, Arroyo Grande, Oceano, Nipomo) - South County has both seaside communities and rural areas.
When it’s foggy at the coast, most days you can escape just by heading to the east side of 101 in Arroyo Grande. If you want to be further out in the country, Arroyo Grande and Nipomo offer many choices. Weather is wonderful in the South County. You can have beach weather or weather similar to that in San Luis Obispo without having to travel far.

Avila Beach – An adorable seaside community.   When it’s foggy on the North and South Coasts, Avila Beach may be sunny!
